Dear, Evan Hansen: Where’s The Waitress and why is it a sin To Kill a Mockingbird? These questions will remain unanswered for a while because Broadway has been closed since March and was set to reopen in January. However, the Broadway League has confirmed that it won’t open till at least June 2021. So show lovers like us will have to wait. Disney Plus did give us a morsel releasing videos of live shows like Hamilton, but the screen is no replacement for live theater. But fans are not as affected as the people who work on and around the Great White Way.
Nearly 97,000 workers rely on Broadway for their livelihood and COVID-19 has affected that livelihood. Initiatives like the “Be An ArtsHero” campaign underscore the need for relief to arts workers who are unemployed. The Save Our Stages Bill would give grants to live venue operators to cover rent, payroll, etc. during the shutdown.
Although Broadway is closed, the Tony Awards are still happening this year, however it will be digital. The nominations have been announced and can be found on https:// www.tonyawards.com/nominees/
