Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil sequel to Maleficent, is a great PG film for family audiences, and its inclusion of humor, action, and adventure makes it very entertaining. Aurora, god-daughter of Maleficent, played by Elle Fanning, is now engaged to Prince Phillip. Maleficent, played by Academy Award winner Angelina Jolie, is hesitant about the marriage due to a bad past with the prince’s kingdom, as seen in the prequel. Phillip’s mother Queen Ingrith, played by Critic’s Choice Actress Michelle Pfeiffer, sees Maleficent as an evil witch causing a war between both kinds, humans and dark fae. Through the battle between humans and the enchanted forest’s creatures, the film incorporates live-action while still maintaining its PG rating so it can be watched by different audiences.
The sequel’s costume design and special effects earned audience reviews like “...pure magic”. Maleficent 2 brings mystical creatures to life from the animated film Sleeping Beauty. Including the 3 fairies Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather who are known as Knotgrass, Flittle, and Thistlewit in the sequel. Another heart-warming character is a hedgehog fairy named Pinto who has a unique costume that consists of leaves from the enchanted forest.
Angelina Jolie and Michelle Pfieffer both deliver amazing performances. Jolie brings light-hearted humor through her mother-like role towards Aurora. She fits the part perfectly in comparison to her character Lara Croft who she played back in 2001 and 2003. Both Croft and Maleficent are strong female leads. Michelle Pfieffer played the evil queen fittingly because of her popular role as Catwoman in the 1992 Batman Returns.
Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil has made a worldwide total of 433,4 million dollars since October 18, 2019 when it first came out. The film is in AMC theaters near you.
