Best Books, Worst Movies...

Isn’t it great when the movie version of a book you LOVED is soon to come out? You
talk about it with your friends, try to picture how they’re going to do it, argue about the
casting (of course, you’re always right). And then it’s released (and you probably figured
out how to stream it), and – IT’S TERRIBLE! You wonder if the movie makers read the
same book you did! In my view, these are the top five WORST movie interpretations of
books, in no specific order.
(There are no major spoilers in this article, so if you want to read the book and watch the
movie, it will not be ruined for you.)
Percy Jackson and the Lighting Thief, By: Rick Riordan
Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief was a great book. What happened to the movie?
There were many scenes excluded, including the bathroom scene when Clarisse tries to
dunk Percy’s head in the toilet. Clarisse wasn’t even in the movie. She is in the second
movie, but she doesn’t look like how she was described. Another character that was
described one way and looked another was Annabeth. Annabeth was supposed to have
curly blonde hair and gray eyes, but she was a brunette with straight hair and had blue
eyes. They looked like they were 17 years old. They're supposed to be 12. They also
didn’t include some of the iconic things, like blue food. It also had a different ending.
Also, a lot of the plot was changed. It was a great book but a horrible movie.
Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters, By: Rick Riordan
In this movie, they decided to just dye Annabeth’s hair the right color. WHY DIDN'T
THEY DYE IT IN THE FIRST ONE? The characters still did not look like how they were
described. The entire plot is different. An example is the spies are shown on Luke’s ship
even though they aren’t supposed to be revealed as spies until the final book of this
series.
The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, By: Cassandra Clare
The Mortal Instruments is a great book series. The movie was not. The characters acted
differently, like Jace. Movie Jace didn’t have the humor and was too serious. Some
scenes were added into the movie and the ending was different. There is also a show,
which is just as bad as this movie.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, By: J.K. Rowling
The book and movie are great, but they are different. Some scenes could have been
better and some characters were missing like Winky and Ludo Bagman. Some of the
plot was missing too.
Allegiant, By: Veronica Roth
It was a good movie, but the book was better. Some scenes were changed and some
were added. A scene that was changed was when Tris and Four both go back to
Chicago. The ending was also different.
