Lady Diné Warriors Sweep Tohatchi for Championship Title!

On September 9, 2017, Tse'Yi'Gai's Lady Diné Warriors varsity volleyball claimed the 2017 To'Hajiilee Volleyball Tournament Championship title in 3 games against the Tohatchi Lady Cougars. Tse'Yi'Gai began the tournament play on Thursday, September 7 in pool play. They had 3 other teams in their pool, Pool A. The Diné Warriors were seeded #1 in their pool. Bracket play began the next evening on Friday, September 8. The Lady Diné Warriors defeated Shiprock NW in 3 games to advance to the semifinal game. Tse'Yi'Gai faced Cimarron, first seed of Pool B, in the semifinal match. Cimarron had only 6 tall, players. TGH's varsity players were intimidated by Cimarron's height but immediately came over their fears as soon as learning Cimarron had some flaws in their play. The Diné Warriors defeated the Lady Rams in the first set 25-19. The Lady rams bounced back to take the second set, 13-25. Tse'Yi'Gai fought back to take set three, 25-18. Cimarron refused to give up game four and with a 16-25 win. Game 5 determined which team would advance to the championship game. The Lady Diné Warriors took the fifth set with a win over Cimarron, 15-11 advanced to the championship game against Tohatchi. Both teams waited several hours to play for the title as the consolation games had to be completed first. By the championship game, the volleyball team were restless and tired but took on the Lady Cougars of Tohatchi High School. The Lady Diné Warriors defeated Tohatchi in 3 straight sets, 25-15, 25-22, and 25-20 to claim the championship title. The Lady Diné Warriors were presented with the 1st Place trophy and the championship banner. Lakoda Jim and Tianalee Jim, both freshmen, were selected as All-Tourneys and were presented with medals.
