There is a wonderful place where ART and TECHNOLOGY meet - and fall in love. No, it’s not match.com. It’s Digital Photography class. Taught by Ms. Gina Buongiovanni, the students explore the limitless possibilities for taking and creatively manipulating digital photographs. The students have learned the basics of photographic composition and lighting, Photoshop, color theory, and the fundamentals of image processing. Using the rules of composition and the elements of art as guides, the students set out on “scavenger hunts” to capture a series of images on a list.
It is amazing to see the incredible variety of techniques they experiment with to create imaginative and breathtaking effects. By adding text, or by juxtaposing images with other images, or by intentionally duplicating a series of images within the same photograph, they expand the bounds of artistic expression.
Importantly, students also learn the history of photography and about famous photographers like Ansel Adams. Ms. Buongiovanni believes that it is essential to understand how photography has evolved and to consider the myriad possibilities of where it might go.
