Lululemon is one of the most popular stores in athletic wear today, but little do people know that in 2011 when it was just a blooming business, one of the most horrible murders occurred in one of their stores. Even though this murder happened a long time ago, it is starting to be brought up again on social media platforms like TikTok since the brand is more popular now and not many people really knew about this tragedy.
On March 11, 2011, Jayna Murray, a Lululemon worker was brutally murdered at the Lululemon store located in Bethesda, Maryland. Jayna was murdered by her co-worker, Brittany Norwood. It seems to be that this horrific event occurred over a pair of leggings. Jayna saw Brittany slip a pair of leggings into her bag and she reported her to the manager. Brittany was furious after Jayna told on her so she decided to kill her. This all happened after-hours in the store where Brittany choked and stabbed Jayna to death. She used at least 5 weapons, causing 331 separate wounds. Weirdly enough, Brittany had the murder all planned out…she came up with a fake scenario to cover her tracks. She said that two masked men came into the store and attacked both her and Jayna. To make the story more believable, Brittany gave herself a few minor wounds such as cutting a gash on her forehead. She even tied herself up and stayed at the store all night, waiting to be found next to Jayna’s dead body. When Norwood was questioned, she denied that she murdered Jayna but Bethesda Detective Dimitry Ruvin didn’t believe any of this since the amount of trauma Jayna suffered wasn’t normal. There were bloodied footprints on the floor but those were explained away when size 14 training shoes were found in the store which didn’t make any sense. To Ruvin, the scene appeared to be staged. At the trial, the jury decided that Brittany had committed a truly wild and violent murder. In January of 2012, she was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to a maximum term of life imprisonment with no possibility of parole. We should always remember this tragic story and honor Jayna Murray for the honest person that she was. She was so dedicated to her job and she loved working at Lululemon as yoga brought her peace.
