The idea of college can be very stressful, especially when thinking about the expenses. Scholarships are usually intricate and difficult, but listed below are some quirky and unique scholarships to ease the financial burden of your postsecondary endeavors!
Doodle for Google is exactly what it sounds like! It is an annual scholarship for students K-12 in which you have to illustrate the word “Google” with any materials. The winner gets their doodle displayed on the Google page, a $30,000 college scholarship, a $50,000 technology package for their school/non-profit organization, Google hardware, and “Fun Googley swag.” The national finalists get a $5000 scholarship, Google hardware, and “Fun Googley swag.” The deadline is March 2021.
Chick and Sophie Major Memorial Duck Calling Contest is for those of you who want to show off their duck calling skills! You must be a graduating senior in high school. They give four people awards ranging from $500 to $2000. The deadline for this scholarship is November 29, 2021. To enter, contestants must register through the Stuttgart Chamber of Commerce in Stuttgart, Ark. There is no entry fee.
The next scholarship is for the tall seniors graduating in 2021. The Tall Club’s International Foundation Scholarship focuses on women over the height 5’10” and men over 6’2”. They award multiple students that meet these criterias $1000 each, the deadline being March 1, 2021. To enter, fill out the application, which can be found on the TCI Foundation website.
Create-A-Greeting-Card Scholarship puts your graphic design skills to the test. The Prudent Publishing Company will reward up to $10,000 to an individual who can capture creativity and inspiration to create a greeting card. They also reward a $1000 prize to the school of the individual. The deadline is March 2, 2021, and you can find the application on the Gallery Collection website.
The Helen McCloy Scholarship is perfect for creative writers. Write a mysterious form of fiction, nonfiction, screenplays, or play scripts to get a chance to win $500! The Applicant must choose a specific writing class, workshop, or seminar to which the scholarship will contribute. To enter, submit a 300-500 word story with your application on the Mystery Writers of America website.
Good luck to seniors and other students applying to earn scholarships! Remember, not everything is about GPA and ACT scores, so go out and search for scholarships that emphasize your skills and hobbies.
