On November 9th, the CHS Unified Bowling team competed in their first dual.
This is the CHS Unified Bowling team’s second year of existance, and thirteen Columbus High School students are participating. Unified bowling is an NSAA sport that allows students with disabilities to participate in a varsity sport with their peers. Each team will have two students with every athlete that has disabilities. Unified bowling provides everyone an opportunity to get to know each other.
Last season, the Unified Bowling team participated in one dual before districts, but this season they have three duals scheduled before the December 10 district tournament. Head Coach Jacquelyn Eickhoff said “At districts, (last year) we got third place! This was a surprise to all of us!” Their main goal this season is to build friendships and have fun being a part of a team, but they would love to perform the same or better at districts.
In Nebraska, 63 schools participate in unified bowling. Columbus is in a district with Bloomfield, Norfolk, Omaha Nation, Ponca, Wayne, and West Point Beemer.
Unified Bowling’s next home dual is on November 19th at Westbrook Lanes. Districts will follow soon after on December 10th at Kings Lanes in Norfolk. Good luck this season Unified Bowling!
