CHS Honors Veterans with Virtual Concert

In order to properly honor our veterans this year, Mr. Peabody has been hard at work, trying to have a wonderful concert along with satisfying all Covid-19 regulations. The band will play on stage - socially distanced - while being recorded performing a selection of patriotic music..

The first song the Discoverer Band will be performing is “Amber Waves of Grain” by James Curnow.  “Amber Waves” is a symphonic rhapsody on “America the Beautiful.” Another song the discoverer band will be playing is “Armed Forces - The Pride of America”  arranged by Larry Clark and Greg Gilpen. “Armed Forces” is a medley of many great patriotic songs including “The Star Spangled Banner,” “The Pledge of Allegiance,” and the “Armed Forces.” Concert choir will be singing along to the Armed Forces medley.

In addition to these selections, the band will be playing two different marches. The first being “Alamo” by Karl King. The second being “Valley Forge,” also by Karl King and arranged by James Swearingen. Karl King, famous for his circus marches, is one of Mr. Peabody’s favorite composers.

After the concert is recorded, the recording will be posted on The Columbus High School Facebook page. Be sure to look it up and watch on Thursday, November 12.  Although the concert cannot be performed live, it is still sure to be a great way to honor our veterans for all they have done for our country and freedom.

I am a new staffer and extremely excited for this year! Other than Newspaper, I am involved in Educators Rising, Marching Band, National Honor Society, Pep Band,  Robotics, Science Bowl, Theater, and Quizbowl. Outside of school, I have two part time jobs,  I am a member of Girl Scouts, Venture Scouts, a local dance studio, and participate in a church group called Godparents. In my free time, I enjoy biking, skiing, and any other outdoor activities. I also like spending time with my family, especially my little cousins. I believe that the most important thing in life is family and love.
