Common Grounds is Stroudsburg High School's in-school coffee shop and gives kids real work experiences. In Common Grounds there are four work stations. The first station is pumping coffee, the second station is cash register, the third station is cappuccino, the last station is making coffee. At every station everyone has to do a clip board then the manager checks that you got everything on your clipboard for restocking supplies. Anyone who works at Common Grounds can get a free drink each month. You can get pick to be promoted to manager if you are a good worker in all stations. Teachers can bring their students to Common Grounds where they can get anything from a cappuccino to a bagel. Teachers often use a trip to Common Grounds as a reward.
Common Grounds is a great place for students to learn skills for them to get jobs in the community. Some skills that students learn include: making eye contact, talking to customers and co-workers, working with money, following directions, measuring, listening to orders, answering the phone, delivering phone orders, restocking supplies, and many other skills. Mrs. Bochon says that she is very impressed with how the students can run the business even when there are very long lines. She also says that the students count the money and make the deposits and keep track of inventory. The managers come up with great ideas for giveaways, they make announcements over the loudspeaker, plan events at the coffee shop, and they help to train the new workers. Mrs. Bochon says that she is so happy with the success of all the students that work at Common Grounds.
