A big part of me wanting to come to Temple was being able to live in the heart of North Philadelphia. Over my time, I've been able to use and familiarize myself with the large transportation system that is called SEPTA. The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (but we just call it SEPTA!) encompasses all of transportation in and around Philly. Some students even use it to commute to and from Temple all the way from New Jersey. The Broad Street Line is one line on the subway that runs all the way up and down Broad Street. For just $2.50 you can hop on and take it almost anywhere. Here are some of my favorite places to go using the Broad Street Line.
City Hall: All year round, there is always something to do near the City Hall stop. I love how close it is to food and clothing stores, so it makes for a great weekend trip with your friends. It is also so close to some of Philly's famous landmarks (LOVE Statue) to cross off your bucket list. There is also a free transfer to the Market-Frankford Line and the Trolley so you can go as far as Penn's Landing.
Walnut/Locust: This stop is so close to the Avenue of the Arts and as a theater major, I love spending my time here. It is just a short walk to The Kimmel Center, Walnut Street Theatre, Suzanne Roberts and so many more. These are great places to see professional productions and Broadway touring shows. This stop is also so close to Rittenhouse Square, where there are even more food and clothes shops, and some great photo opportunities.
NGR: Where the Eagles, Phillies and Temple Owls play! One of my favorite memories from my first year was taking the BSL all the way to the end of the line to watch the Phillies win in extra innings. Students sometimes take this on football game days to enjoy free food and fun with their friends. There is always something going on in, near, or around Lincoln Financial Field!
Cecil B. Moore/Temple University: And last but not least, of course we have Cecil B. Moore Station! This is the stop that always leads us back home (and it's also so close to the Insomnia Cookies). I love how easy it is to be able to jump on at Cecil B. Moore Station and take it wherever I want to go.
Exploring Philadelphia is so easy using the Broad Street Line, and having a stop right on campus makes it even better. Be sure to tap your SEPTA key and take it wherever you want to go!
