Tips on Staying Organized with School Work

In the wake of this pandemic, it is safe to say that all or most of the world’s school students have switched to online learning and assignments. The switch to online learning has been stressful for many students and has made getting school work done even harder to manage. If you are not staying organized and on top of the work, it will build up and you will end up doing most of the work last minute.

One way to easier manage school work is by staying consistent and developing a routine. Creating a mental or a written schedule for when you will do the homework, when you will review, and when you will practice will help keep you focused and on track. Although it may be hard to follow a schedule 100 percent of the time, it can create a frame for the work and help to lay out what you will have to do.

Another way to keep organized is by writing down what is due and when it is due in a planner. It is very difficult to try and remember due dates and what is expected of you at the end of each week so by creating a planner, you are minimizing the amount of stress and work put into it. It may also help to create due dates in the planner before the actual due date. That way you ensure the work will be done on time. With starting a planner, consistency is key. You have to write everything down as soon as it is assigned to make sure that you won’t miss anything.

Another simple way to stay organized is by working on one task at a time. Multitasking may seem like it’s more efficient because it gives off the idea that you are working twice as hard but it is really just giving half effort to multiple tasks at once. If you focus on one task at a time, you are ensuring that the work will be done to the best of your ability. It is also more organized that way. Breaking down one big task into multiple small tasks also helps you stay organized. Rather than telling yourself that you have a big project due soon, you can break it up into smaller sections like research, planning, typing, and citing sources.

It will also be easier to stay organized if you are in the right environment. If you want to effectively complete work, you should be at a desk of some sort. If you were to study on your bed, you would be more likely to fall asleep. Cutting out distractions such as your phone, your television, and even siblings can also help create a good studying and learning environment, as well.

Organization is the first step to staying on top of school work during an already stressful time. We can not control corona or the amount of damage the virus has done but we can attempt to stay on track with everyday life in areas such as school. Letting your grades slip due to this virus would be letting the virus ruin yet another thing.
