This week, we are celebrating National FFA week. FFA is an intracurricular organization for students interested in agricultural careers. Although many people incorrectly call it “Future Farmers of America,” you don’t necessarily have to want to be a farmer to be part of the group. Many students in the organization are interested in careers like entomology, veterinary science, wildlife biology, microbiology, food science, ag business, landscaping, welding, or mechanics.

Now for our Ag trivia of the day: The Keystone State ranks first nationally in mushroom production – farmers annually produce more than 570 million pounds of mushrooms.

As part of our celebration, we are asking everyone to join us for ONE dress down day TOMORROW. Please wear the FFA colors: blue and gold!

"In today’s news, Jeff Bezos, the world’s richest man, has pledged to spend $10 billion to fight climate change. He said in an Instagram post that he’d give grants to scientists, activists and non-profit organizations in an effort to, “fight the devastating impact of climate change”. Interestingly enough, this announcement has come soon after Amazon’s enormous carbon footprint was revealed to the public.

On this day in history in 1885, Mark Twain’s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was published. The book came as a sequel to Adventures of Tom Sawyer, however it was a lot more serious as it focused on the institution of slavery and life in the antebellum South. The book is considered controversial by many, but still regarded by critics as an American masterpiece."

Down 17-4 at the end of the first quarter, the Ephrata girls came back strong and eventually traded the lead. Ultimately the girls weren't able to hold on for the win ending with a 43-41 loss. Senior Gabbie Gerola Hill led the Mounts with 20 points on the night and reached the 1000 point milestone with .5 seconds left in the match. Congratulations girls on a great season!

In wrestling action, several Ephrata wrestlers competed in the district matches Kayde Althouse was bested in the semifinal round, but James Ellis proved too strong for any competitors and nabbed the gold at 170lbs.

On February 21st and 22nd, The 2020 Ephrata Wiffleball and Cornhole Tournament will be taking place at The Ephrata Middle School.  Funny team names and crazy uniforms are the name of the game and this year we decided to add a cornhole tournament.  Refreshments and silent auctions you won’t want to miss will be available in the foyer.  Wiffleball teams are $100…Cornhole Teams are $40 with a portion of the proceeds being donated to Ovations for the cure of Ovarian Cancer.  Please visit mountshardball.com and click on the wiffleball tournament tab for more information.
