The Ephrata Quiz Bowl Team wrapped up their season Monday night with a 2-2 record at the league tournament. Coming in as the number 8 seed, the team started off the evening with a solid 340-190 win against the Lancaster Country Day Cougars. This win advanced the team to the next round to face the number 1 seed, and eventual league winner, Manheim Township. The Blue Streaks jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, defeating the Mounts 560-120. The team then rebounded with a convincing 480-85 victory over the Garden Spot Spartans. This win was short-lived, however, as this brought on a match-up with the Hempfield Black Knights, the defending state champion. Like Township, Hempfield also took the lead early and then finished off the Mountaineers by answering the final four questions, finishing with a score of 400-185. Congratulations to the five seniors on the team: Chandler Eby, Braden Mulcahy, Khalid Brevli, Payton Miller, and Loi Ngyuen.

NEWS INTRO VIDEO

In today’s political news, the New Hampshire Democratic primaries have occured and it seems that Bernie Sanders has taken the lead with Pete Buttigieg trailing right behind. Also, candidate Andrew Yang has dropped out of the race as his campaign came to realize that he wasn’t pulling the numbers needed to win the candidacy. His proposal for universal basic income resonated with many Americans, whom he referred to as the “Yang Gang”.
On this day in history in 1909, on the 100th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s birthday, the NAACP was founded. African American leaders such as W. E. B. Du Bois and Ida B. Wells-Barnett announced the formation of the organization to work towards the effort of gaining more civil rights for African Americans in time of tumultuous struggle. The formation of the organization is sometimes marked as the spark to the Civil Rights Movement that characterized the 20th century.
