Last night Ephrata’s local VFW hosted a dinner celebrating the winners of their audio-essay competition called Voice of Democracy.
Established in 1947, the Voice of Democracy program awards students for writing and recording patriotic essays.
Each year nearly 40,000 high school students enter to compete for their share of 2.1 million dollars of scholarships.
The dinner honored two Ephrata high school students.
Leah Kreider earned second place at the local level and 3rd place in the district
And
AJ Martin earned fourth place at the local level
-----------------------------
Ephrata’s very own Mrs. Mellinger was also recognized at last night’s VFW dinner. It was announced last evening that the VFW has named Mrs. Mellinger teacher of the year at the district level.
That deserves repeating:
Mrs. Mellinger is the VFW District Level High School Teacher of the Year!
She will now compete at the state level.
Congratulation Mrs. Mellinger!

NOW OVER TO ____ WITH THE NEWS

NEWS INTRO VIDEO
------------------
In today’s news, the Senate has voted to acquit President Trump of the impeachment charges, closing the third presidential impeachment trial in American history. The articles against him were abuse of power and obstruction of justice, and a swift vote from the Republican Senate allowed Trump to walk. Curiously enough, the only Republican to vote guilty on one of the articles was Mitt Romney, calling on his “faith in God” and desire to respect his oath of office.
On this day in history in 1952, King George VI of Great Britain dies, crowning Elizabeth II Queen of England. To this day, the Queen upholds her position, which is largely ceremonial rather than political. She’s one of the wealthiest women alive, as she holds extensive real-estate holdings and art and jewelry collections.
