Ag Trivia for the Day: Did you know that Lancaster is the first county in the nation that has preserved over 100,000 acres of farmland? That means that those acres can never be turned into housing developments or shopping centers. Hopefully that means that farming will be a tradition that can continue here for many more generations to come.

In today’s news, a discovery of twenty new moons orbiting Saturn puts the planet ahead of Jupiter in moon count, reaching 82 total satellites against Jupiter’s 72. This discovery comes forward in hand as new technology is developed each day to find these mysterious celestial objects. Scientists note the possibility of hundreds of tiny “mini-moons” surrounding Saturn, measuring less than three miles across.
On this day in history in 1871, the Great Chicago Fire occurs. Starting as a small blaze that enveloped a family’s barn, the fire quickly turned into a devastating fire storm that destroyed nearly 3.3 miles of the city. $4.6 billion in today’s worth of damage and more than 300 casualties later, Chicago was left a smoldering ruin, however in years to come the city would spring up once again and become the bustling metropolis it is today.
