The Saxon baseball team’s playoff run ended in a close one against the first-seeded Jesuit Crusaders in the Semifinals of the OSAA Baseball State Playoffs on May 28. Hosted at Jesuit, the Crusaders entered the game ready to go, getting an early 1-0 lead on the Saxons in the bottom of the first.
However, the Saxons rallied back by scoring two runs in the top of the second inning being batted in by Noah Ferguson ‘19 and Sean Alvarado ‘19.
The sixth inning proved to be a big one for Jesuit, a base hit, walk, and error loaded the bases for the Crusaders and they were able to convert a base hit to score two runs. However, an appeal lead to the second runner being called out for never touching home plate, leaving the score at a tie 2-2 with two outs. The Saxons got out of the inning from an impressive throw home from right fielder Brayden Neuharth ‘19 to catcher Greyson Hanowell ‘20, who laid down the tag for the third out.
After a scoreless seventh inning on both sides, the game went into extras. Shutting down South in the top of eight, the Crusaders carried their momentum onto offense. When a string of singles led to a Jesuit walk off between first and second base, the Saxons postseason run came to an end.
