NEWS INTRO VIDEO

North Korea has fired at least one unknown projectile, less than a week after it tested several short-range missiles, South Korea's military says. The projectile was fired from the Sino-ri location north-west of the capital, Pyongyang, toward the east. The test is an attempt by the North to increase pressure on the US over its failure to make concessions in nuclear negotiations, analysts say. A top US envoy is in South Korea for talks on how to break the deadlock.
In other news,
A US teenager who took legal action against his school after he was banned for refusing the chickenpox vaccination now has the virus, his lawyer says. Jerome Kunkel, 18, made headlines last month after he unsuccessfully sued his Kentucky school for barring unimmunised students amid an outbreak. His lawyer, Christopher Weist, told US media that the teen's symptoms developed last week. The student had opposed the vaccine on religious grounds. His lawsuit argued the vaccine is "immoral, illegal and sinful" and that his rights had been violated.
On this day in 1914, President Woodrow Wilson issued a presidential proclamation that officially established the first national Mother’s Day holiday to celebrate America’s mothers.
The idea for a “Mother’s Day” is credited by some to Julia Ward Howe (1872) and by others to Anna Jarvis (1907), who both suggested a holiday dedicated to a day of peace. Many individual states celebrated Mother’s Day by 1911, but it was not until Wilson lobbied Congress in 1914 that Mother’s Day was officially set on the second Sunday of every May.

Seniors, It’s time to celebrate your future direction decisions. You spent the majority of your senior year trying to decide what your future holds and where you would like to be next year. All seniors who have made the decision to further their education by attending college, technical or trade school, art or nursing school, or who have enlisted in any branch of the armed services, are invited to show EHS where you will be continuing your schooling next year.
Check out the bulletin board outside of the Counseling Office. If you don’t see your picture there, you can email your counselor, send them a Schoology message, or stop by the Counseling Office to drop your counselor a note about where you are headed next year (college or military). Your picture will be posted on the bulletin board outside of the counseling office for everyone to see! Don't delay!

Attention current sophomores and juniors.
Have you ever yearned for the opportunity to manage your own stock portfolio?
Have you ever dreamed of trading on world markets?
Have you ever wondered what it must be like to work in canyons of Wall Street?
Well, next year Ephrata High School will initiate a new club called The Investment Club.
The Investment Club will be made up of Ephrata students who will manage a real $30,000 portfolio.
That’s right -- $30,000.
The Ephrata Area Education Foundation has donated $30,000 to the new Investment Club.
Members of the club will research stocks, make buy and sell recommendations to the investment board, and vote on the purchase of shares.
An informational meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 15th. The meeting will be held in Mr. Hagen’s room (208) at 2:40.
Hope to see you there.
