I wrote this poem about someone in a dark place taken back into brilliant and love-filled memories by a love letter written to them. I loved writing it because I love exploring the daydreamer side of things.
.
Dreary as damp shoes without soles,
Light gone from steps
Of the tattered room filled
With holes like black maps
.
I look up
Into the mirror image;
A pond of stars reminds me
Of a pearlized flush,
And your laugh as smooth
As crumpling paper,
My way of escape:
Your voice in my mind.
.
Your face
The golden sun flooding
Onto a slanted shadow.
Your hair
Gleaming wide and awry for a halo
Pull me into your cloud of dust
.
The words beat past my swollen lungs
And into the cage of my bones,
Like frantic birds lost
In the ice of your wings
