The story of gentrification means a lot to me because my family was affected by this change years ago. Raised rent and higher sales prices forced most of my family, and family friends, to move out of Williamsburg, New York. Meanwhile trendy cafes and hipster shops moved in. My great aunt was forced to become the landowner of her building to keep herself from moving out of her beloved home. This kind of change is occurring all over the country, and will inevitably occur in the future as well. These photos show the new and refurbished Williamsburg and the millennial residents living in it.
