North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has arrived in the far east of Russia for a summit with President Vladimir Putin. Kim arrived in the Pacific Coast city of Vladivostok for his first talks with the Russian president by train. He was welcomed by officials with a traditional offering of bread and salt. He says they will discuss the Korean peninsula's "nuclear problem", but analysts say Kim is also seeking support after talks with President Donald Trump collapsed.
In other news,
A woman from the United Arab Emirates who was seriously injured in a traffic accident in 1991 has made a seemingly miraculous recovery after emerging from a 27-year-long coma. Munira Abdulla, who was aged 32 at the time of the accident, suffered a severe brain injury after the car she was travelling in collided with a bus on the way to pick up her son from school. Omar Webair, who was then just four years old, was sitting in the back of the vehicle with her, but was left unscathed as his mother cradled him in her arms moments before the accident. Ms Abdulla - who was being driven by her brother-in-law - was left seriously injured, but last year regained consciousness in a German hospital.
on this day in 1916 Around noon on Easter Monday , some 1,600 Irish nationalists–members of the Irish Volunteers–launch the so-called Easter Rising in Dublin, seizing a number of official buildings and calling on all Irish patriots to resist the bonds of British control.
