Each year, International Dance Day is celebrated on April 29. It was founded in 1982 by the Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute. April 29 is the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre, who is known to be the creator of modern ballet. The goal of International Dance Day is to celebrate dance and bring people of all cultures together with a common language- dance.
Each year on International Dance Day, a famous choreographer or dancer releases an inspirational speech for the whole world to hear. A main event sponsored by the International Theatre Institute consisting of dance performances and the chosen speaker takes place each year. This year, the main event will be held in Havana, Cuba.
