On Thursday, March 21, the Columbus boy’s golf team went to the Lincoln High Invite. The boys finished fifth out of 8 teams, with senior Shane Hess placing tenth overall with a score of 82. This was the first time the team had been out on a competition course due to all of the wet weather.
Head Coach Mr. Benson was a little disappointed in how the boys performed that day. He knows that they could have done better. Coach Benson’s goals for this season are to “have all the golfers improve their skills as much as they can during their season and to make the state tournament.” He hopes that with these goals the team will improve their rankings and be better prepared for the rest of the season.
On Friday, March 29, the boys went to the Grand Island Invite. They finished eighth out of 14. The top placer was senior Shane Hess with a score of 80.
The boy’s golf team had dual against Norfolk on Monday, April 1. The varsity team (Shane Hess, Brock Kuhlman, Mitch Goc, Caleb Hoadley, and Ian Gibbs) lost to Norfolk’s score of 154 with a score of 183. The JV team (Zach Peden, Emmit McMeekin, Landon Hastreiter, and Riley Garrets) won against Norfolk’s score of 223 with a score of 200.
Finally, the boys played again at the Kearney invite on Friday, April 5. The boys finished ninth out of 16 with a combined score of 365. The top placer of Columbus was freshman Brock Kuhlman with a score of 81 and rank of 12.
The boys have the CHS invite on April 18 at the Elks Country Club. Good luck to the golfers along with hopes of decent weather!
