The US Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen, who enforced some of President Donald Trump's controversial border policies, has resigned. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Kevin McAleenan will replace her temporarily, Trump said. Nielsen was responsible for the proposed border wall with Mexico and the separation of migrant families. Her resignation came after the president indicated he wanted to follow a "tougher" immigration policy.
In other news,
UK engineers developing a novel propulsion system say their technology has passed another key milestone. The Sabre air-breathing rocket engine is designed to drive space planes to orbit and take airliners around the world in just a few hours. To work, it needs to manage very high temperature airflows, and the team at Reaction Engines Ltd has developed a heat-exchanger for the purpose. This key element has just demonstrated an impressive level of performance. It has shown the ability to handle the simulated conditions of flying at more than three times the speed of sound."
On this day in history in 1994 the Rwandan genocide was sparked by the death of the Rwandan President Juvenal Habyarimana, a Hutu, when his plane was shot down above Kigali airport on 6 April 1994. Between April and June 1994, an estimated 800,000 Rwandans were killed in the space of 100 days.

All bids are final Thursday April 18. Sign up during lunches starting today! 25 cents is a minimum bid or you can drop $20 and win instantly!

Attention anyone interested in running for a class officer position next year. Petitions will be available starting on April 8th and will be accepted through April 23rd. Officer elections will occur online the week of April 29th.
If you are currently a junior, you may pick up a petition from Mr. Geyer in room 129 or Mrs. Brenner in room 101.
If you are currently a sophomore, you may pick up your petition from Mrs. Schubert in room 209.
If you are currently a freshman, you may pick up your petition from Mr. Hershey in room 309.
Remember, petitions may be picked up starting Tuesday, April 8th and are due no later than Tuesday, April 23rd. If you have any questions, you may see Mr. Geyer, Mrs. Brenner, Mrs. Schubert or Mr. Hershey.

If you are interested in running for student council, please stop down to Mr. Marzock’s room and pick up your petition. ONLY 6 members are selected to become representatives of student council per grade to represent our student body. We will need to hold elections for those positions. Stop down and pick up your petition from Mr. Marzock in room 137. You will need to collect 25 signatures from students in your grade only or your petition will be void. Elections will be held during advisory on Friday April 12th. Any Petition or teacher recommendation received at AFTER TUESDAY APRIL 9th will not be accepted, so stop down to see Mr. Marzock in room 137 and let’s get this show on the road!
