Congratulations to our German students who took the National German Exam! All of our students did very well, but we would like to especially congratulate our gold winners: Kimi Earl, Samuel Mantsevich, Zeke Jones, Madison Stewart, Brooke Zimmerman, Maddie Rissler, Destiny Stauffer-Ovensen, Biola Fatusin, Marleigh Oberholtzer and Alec Smith.  Winning gold means that they scored better on their test than 90% of the nation on the exam.  You may also want to wish some of them luck as they move on to an interview for a free three-week exchange trip this summer.  Way to go and good luck!

Authorities say at least 23 people have lost their lives as tornadoes struck Lee County in eastern Alabama. County Sheriff Jay Jones said there had been "catastrophic" damage and there were fears more people would be lost. Dozens are thought to have been hurt. Rescue efforts have been halted until dawn due to the danger of searching in the dark. The most devastating tornadoes struck the area around Beauregard, carving a path at least half a mile wide. The National Weather Service made a classification of at least F-3 - meaning winds of up to 165mph.

In other news,

A rare fish thought to live in the southern hemisphere has washed up in Santa Barbara, California. The appearance of the seven-foot hoodwinker sunfish has baffled scientists, who question how the fish made it so far from its home waters. An intern at the University of California spotted the animal at the Coal Oil Point Natural Reserve. It took researchers several days to properly identify the creature, which was only discovered in 2014. Photos of the giant fish first appeared on the Coal Oil Point Facebook page, and experts from around the world weighed in to help identify the creature.

 On, 1933, at the height of the Great Depression, Franklin Delano Roosevelt is inaugurated as the 32nd president of the United States. In his famous inaugural address, delivered outside the east wing of the U.S. Capitol, Roosevelt outlined his “New Deal”–an expansion of the federal government as an instrument of employment opportunity and welfare–and told Americans that “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” Although it was a rainy day in Washington, and gusts of rain blew over Roosevelt as he spoke, he delivered a speech that radiated optimism and competence, and a broad majority of Americans united behind their new president and his radical economic proposals to lead the nation out of the Great Depression.

 The Lancaster County Workforce Development Board’s Youth Council is excited to present the 2019 Health Careers Expo.  The event is scheduled to take place on Wednesday March 27, 2019. The event is being held at the PA College of Health Sciences. We are excited to add a new activity to the event this year, an Immersive Experience via IMAX technology. Students will be able to guide the experience using remotes.  If you are interested in attending this event, please stop down to guidance and pick up a permission form.  Permission forms are due by 3/18/19.

EHS Mini- THON Club wants to thank those students and faculty who participated in some way to the success of our Mini- THON Saturday.  Because of you and additional donations, we were able to raise over $12,000 to help in the cure for pediatric cancer!  We aren’t done yet.  Please consider participating in any upcoming events through the end of the school year!
