Congratulations to the two Mountaineer Robotics teams that qualified for the state robotics championships this past Saturday. Senior Nick Hoopes’ robot won the skills competition over 24 other teams and not only earned a spot in the state tournament but was also qualified for the U.S. VEX Create Tournament held in Iowa. Nick was ably assisted at Saturday’s tournament by fellow senior Derek Murphy. The all freshmen team of Ashton Kunkle and Alex Bischoff finished the six preliminary matches in eighth place out of the 24 teams but unfortunately lost in the quarter finals. Good luck to both squads when they compete in two weeks at Norristown High School against 80 other Pennsylvania teams.

A coalition of 16 US states led by California is suing President Donald Trump's administration over his decision to declare an emergency to raise funds for a Mexican border wall. Trump made the declaration on Friday to bypass Congress after it refused to approve $5.7 billion for the wall. The states say they want to block his "misuse of presidential power". The Democrats oppose funding Trump's barrier, a key campaign pledge, and have vowed to contest his plan. The president's announcement came after he signed a spending bill to avoid another government shutdown that granted him only $1.375 billion for new border barriers.
