Leadership

Everyone looks towards somebody, whether it is a role model, a teacher, or a friend. They look to these people, as they provide a form of leadership for them. Leadership is defined as, the action of leading a group of people or an organization. This means that someone is leading others towards certain decisions and actions. They are in charge of doing what is best for the other people involved, and they are trusted to succeed and never fail.

Leadership is an important quality that a lot of people have, the problem with it is that some people choose to step back from their want to lead, and allow others to take over. People look towards leaders who are honest, have integrity, are confident, can communicate well, have a passion for what they are doing, can make the right decisions, are able to inspire others, and can be held accountable for their actions. People look to leaders who will admit when they are wrong, and ask for help when they need it. People want a leader who has empathy, and have creativity. Those looking for change want someone who isn’t afraid to make a hard call in order to reach their goals. In order to become a leader, these qualities are required, or at least most of them. People want someone who is strong, and able to work hard for the needs and wants of their people.

There are many levels of difficulty when it comes to leadership. A leader must have the ability to know when to step back and ask for help, but sometimes they do not. Leaders now are so bent on being perfect that they lose focus on what they originally came to do. Some of the biggest problems with leaders is that they lose their vision for what they want, have a lack of accountability, fail to communicate, and sometimes leaders get too close to the people around them that they can’t stop another person from doing something wrong, or doing something that doesn’t fit with their goals. When a leader loses their vision, things start to go down hill. Without a vision, the leader may lose their passion, which hurts the people the leader is helping, and that leads to ineffective communication, and a lack of accountability.

For example, if the basketball team you play for lost a game, everyone would be upset. The team looks towards their leader for advice, and what to work on. You and the rest of your team want to know what went wrong, but the captain of the team is only blaming other people, and not admitting what they did wrong. They aren’t accountable for their own actions, and they put the blame on everyone else. The captain probably feels like they have to be perfect for their team, and doesn’t want to admit to failure, and ask for help when they need it. This would cause you and your teammates to grow angry with your captain, as your peer won’t be responsible for their own actions. This is an example of bad leadership. The captain of the team doesn’t want to be responsible for their own actions, so the team grows angry with their captain, and creates a big issue, as they may lose trust with their leader, knowing they cannot be held accountable for their actions.

In order to become a leader, you must show the characteristics explains earlier. You must work hard, have confidence in what you are doing, and many more. If you are looking to rise up and lead, you must show you can do what is right, and show you are responsible enough to hold a position of power, and that goes for anything you are doing. Personally, leadership for myself is being capable of helping others, and being able to do the right thing, whether it is the right decision or not. Leaders must be able to make tough calls, and also have the knowledge of when to get help from others. If you are looking to become leadership in anything, whether is be a company, a sports team, class council, or just anything in general, you must show responsibility, and be personable.

If you truly want to lead, you have to begin to go that extra step, work harder on whatever work you are doing, make yourself more open to suggestion, and help those around you. The most looked to qualities in a leader is their values. A leader without values isn’t truly a leader at all. Without values, you cannot have leadership. Leadership is about being able to take on the burden of being in charge, and doing what is right. Leadership is about being there for those around you. The values of a leader are very important, as they affect every decision somebody makes. To become a leader, you must have good values, but still be open to suggestion, and are able to change to do what is right for everybody.

Leadership is an important factor of life. Without leadership, the world would be totally different right now. People would be doing whatever they wanted, no matter how bad it is, as there is nobody to guide them from wrong to right. There is bound to be a moment in your life that you want to lead others, or step up so you can show your point of view on something. Having leadership qualities can benefit your entire life. Colleges love a person who has stepped up in their community, and has grown as a leader to those around them. People in general look to those who aren’t afraid of others, and are able to point out the things they feel are right and wrong. Leadership is everywhere, and it is in both big and small forms. Of course, there are problems with every leader, as nobody is perfect, but there are still some great people who display leadership. Everyone has someone they look to, and that person is a leader in their life, whether they know it or not. Leadership can change you life, in both good and bad ways. People don’t always get what they want in a leader, so they step up and try to suggest other ideas. There is some form of leadership in everyone, and that is vital to the world we live in today, as without certain leaders contrasting others, we could be living in a totally different world.
