Kylie Jenner was recently dethroned of her Instagram record title by an egg. That’s right, a stock photo of an egg has gained the title of the most liked picture on Instagram. If you have checked your Instagram in the past two days, you have inevitably seen a meme or mention of this famous egg on your feed.

On Jan 5, an Instagram account with the name @world_record_egg posted a stock photo of an egg with the caption, "Let's set a world record together and get the most liked post on Instagram. Beating the current world record held by Kylie Jenner (18 million)! We got this”. This page gained immediate attention and support from all over the world. The page reached its goal on Sun, Jan 13, when its post not only attained 18 million likes but also soared high above. At last glance, the picture was sitting at 47 million likes, over double Jenner’s preceding record.

The photo that previously held the record was that of Kylie Jenner’s baby announcement which was posted in February. This post revealed the birth of Stormi, Jenner’s first child with rapper Travis Scott, and accumulated about 18 million likes.

The eggs achievement has sparked inspiration to numerous copycat accounts in the Instagram community. Various accounts promoting fruits, vegetables, animals, and different colored eggs have sprung up in hopes to hit it big on social media.
