I Believe Dogs Can Teach Us All Life Lessons

I believe in dogs. I believe dogs can teach us all life lessons that we should live by every day. Dogs aren’t only a man’s best friend, they’re a man’s best teacher. Although a dog can’t talk and doesn’t take on human-like tasks, if one looks hard enough, they’ll find the little things that dogs can teach us.
I believe that there are times to play rough and times to be gentle. Although it may be fun to fool around with friends, sometimes all a person needs is a shoulder to lean on. There are times for fun. However, to truly be a good friend, we have to be able to sympathize for our friend. Much like a loyal dog, we have to be loyal for our friends. We should be able to sense when something is wrong and make it our first priority to make them feel better.
I believe in obeying our masters. While a dog has to obey and take orders from their owner, we have to “obey” our parents, teachers, bosses, and more. Doing so may allow us to be safer, be more intelligent, and be rewarded. While dogs get rewarded with treats, toys, and a bone, we get rewarded with good grades, good paychecks, raises, and more. In order to make it far in life, a person must have basic listening and obeying skills.
I believe there’s nothing wrong with being naive sometimes. Dogs are always so naive, and they seem to live such happy lives. While we do have to be informed with certain information, sometimes a person may need a break from all the stress in their life. If we become slightly more naive, we would stress less and most likely be happier.
I believe that we should say hi to everyone we see. Dogs on walks are constantly stopping and acknowledging other dogs and people around them. If we said hi to every person who looks vaguely familiar, we would be more social and friendly towards others. It can also make the other person happy that you remembered them. Saying hi to everyone we know would make our day and the other person’s day better.
I believe that’s it’s okay to have to rely on someone sometimes. Dogs go every day of their lives completely dependent on their owner. They depend on their owner feeding them, giving them water, taking them outside, and taking care of them, in general, every single day. While we shouldn’t be that level of dependent with a person, at certain times we have to be a little dependent on a person. For instance, if something bad happened, or we’re just having a bad day in general, we’d rely on our friends to cheer us up. Everyone should have a friend that they can rely on when they have to. Plus, we rely on our parents from the day we’re born until the day we turn 18. We trust that they’d feed us and change us as babies, provide schooling and food as a child, and offer us advice and support as a young adult. We rely on more people then someone would assume.
I believe everyone should greet their loved ones when they get home. Dogs greet their owners every day with a smile and fast-wagging tail. This makes someone wonder why don’t we? After someone gets home from a long and quite possibly stressful day, they would love more than just a simple “hi” when they get home. We should hug them and tell them how much we’ve missed them. We should act like we haven’t seen them in a year, just like dogs do. When a dog greets their owner at the door, it always puts a smile on the owner's face and brightens their day. We can do the same thing for our loved ones with just a simple interaction.
I believe in enjoying the little things. Small things can always make dogs so happy. Some examples are car rides, treats, other dogs, and attention. If we appreciated the little things, we would live much happier lives. Instead of complaining about a long road trip, look outside and take in the beauty. There is always something small that you can smile about.
I believe in showing affection towards others. Dogs are constantly showing affection to any person they see, yet people are constantly mean to each other. We should all be kind to one another, and help each other out. We should tell our friends, family, teachers, etc. how thankful we are to have them in our life. We should help someone when someone is obviously in need of help. We should express our love to people who we probably take for granted, especially because we don’t know how long they’ll be here. If we told people how much we appreciated them, they would most likely do the same for us. It’s an amazing feeling when someone tells you how much they appreciate you.
I believe in helping others. I believe that we should always help others, no matter if we know them or not. Dogs are constantly helping others, either by offering a head to pet when the owner is stressed, or service dogs constantly helping people who need it. We shouldn’t have to know a person just to help them. Think of the last time you had a bad day. Wouldn’t you have wanted someone to help you, even in just a small way? We can do this every day and it wouldn’t take long, but it might make the others person’s day much better.
I believe that everyone should smile often. Dogs always look so happy, with a huge smile on their face and wagging tails. Seeing them like this usually makes us smile. The effect is the same when we smile often. Smiling often will not only make us happier but the people around us happier. Feelings are contagious, and how you are feeling will affect those around you. Smiling is something easy we can do every day to make our lives a little better.
I believe that everyone should be seen as equal. Dogs never judge. They don’t care about gender, race, sexuality, religion, or appearance. All they want is for that person to pet them. The same thing should apply to humans. Why should we judge anyone based on gender, race, sexuality, religion, or appearance? Does it matter if they’re going to pet us anyway? By this, I mean does the race, gender, or sexuality, or appearance matter if they’re going to do something for us anyway? Next time you go to a restaurant, store, or any other place where you’ll need a worker’s assistance, think about that question. It’s easy to see that most of the world’s wars and genocides are based on these topics. Why start a war over something someone can’t control? While we can’t change our past, we can change our future. We can make the world a better place for ourselves, our children, and their children. The future is ours, it is up to us to be better than the last generations.
