Leadership
Everyone throughout their life has been encouraged to be a leader, not a follower. Leadership simply can be the action of setting a direction, and stepping up to be guiding a group through something. However, leadership has more dimensions to it than just simply aiding someone through an obstacle. Leadership involves a person who is willing to be there for their group, and set a good image and example for their group.
Leadership is an aspect of life that is found everywhere. Whether it’s bands, companies, sports teams, work facilities, there’s always going to be someone who’s considered the “leader type” person. To be a leader could mean to guide and direct a group of people through something like a football game. Leaders can set goals and can (in certain settings) create strategies for their team or group to follow in order to succeed. A good leader would also support their team and group, encouraging them to continue moving and progressing. Leaders should also encourage moving as one group, and that everyone is working to achieve a goal together. When there is a lack of leadership, group settings can get chaotic with how plans work. When people try to step up and lead after no leader position was set, that may cause friction in between teammates, and they won’t be able to reach their goals as easily.
While there are many different settings of leadership, that means there will also be various ways to execute any form of leadership. Still, there are basic rules that should be followed. With that, a leader should not separate themselves and place themselves on a higher pedestal, but be one with the team. This produces a closer bond, and more trust in whoever is taking the leader position in a group. While in something like a sports game, a leader may have to be more stern and straightforward toward teammates, it shouldn’t send them into their own world where they see themselves as the boss, who overpowers everyone else.
In life, it’s hard to not have leadership throughout a group of people in many situations. If there was no leader at all, not everyone would be sure of what they’re meant to do compared to what their group or team is doing. Especially in an office or working facility, how much work would really get completed if there were people who thought they were completing the same task instead of another step that would help complete whatever needed to be done? Leaders are needed in most situations, because a leader is there to guide and support others, while also making sure they aren’t feeling lost. People should be able to find confidence and trust within their leaders, giving them a better sense of security.
In the end, is it better to be lead or become a leader? When put in the situation, would one rather step up and guide others or try to participate and be a follower? To some, it could seem easy if they lead others often, but for others, it’s something new that they might need to test. With that, there are people in our lives that we lead, but there are also other people that we may follow, or feel like they lead us. Who are you a leader to?
