Hands Poem

Her hands once helped her mother, cleaning the house

And then held her siblings, helping them learn and grow

As she got older, her hands held her future husbands

Not knowing they would get married

On her hands, he placed a ring

Years later, her hands waved him goodbye as he went off to war

Praying at night that he would return

She held in her hands a diploma

She had graduated from nursing school

She worked in the hospital as a nurse

Her hands saving lives

Her hands then wiped her tears of joy

When her husband returned home

She then held her daughter in her hands

And her son a few years later

She raised them well and used her hands to guide them

She used her hands to communicate

Learning sign language

A way to talk to those who could not hear

She then held her grandchildren in her hands

Being a grandma for her meant flour all over her hands

Teaching her grandchildren how to bake

Her hands covered in dirt, showing them how to garden

Now, she uses her hands to take photos of her family

To play with her grandchildren

And to look after those who mean the most to her
