All students will receive a copy of their second semester schedules this morning in homeroom. Study halls will be inserted in missing periods on your schedule, and the second semester begins on Tuesday January 22nd 2019. The only schedule changes that will be made without parent signature and required essay are changes that meet one of the following criteria:
You are missing a required second semester class.
You have a study hall and would like to take a class instead (check the available class listing which can be found on the EHS Counseling website – no parent signature is required).
You failed a required 1st semester class that needs to be made up second semester.
If you would like to change your schedule for a different reason, please follow the directions on the bottom of your schedule sheet. A listing of open courses can be found on the EHS Counseling website.

This year Student Council is doing a new event called a sing-a-thon to help raise money for the Christmas charity! There will be four different duet groups of teachers at each lunch period. Your job is to put your money in the duet bucket you want to see sing live on Ephrata Am! The bucket with the most money wins. Starting this Friday, swing by the table at lunch and drop your money in the teacher duet group you wish to sing a truly embarrassing Christmas song! Bidding ends next Wednesday!
-----------------------------
Person 1 : Are you ready?
Person 2 : For what?
Person 1: FOR DOUGHNUTS OF COURSE!!!
Person 2: OOOH that’s right. Student Council is running the annual Christmas Charity homeroom competition this year.
Person 1: The homeroom that raises the most money will get a doughnut party that Santa would be sorry to miss.
Person 2: What’s so good about just getting doughnuts?
Peron 1: Hold on its not just doughnuts, you can possibly have it all. Hot Chocolate, milk, OJ, fruit, bagels, Christmas cookies. You name it you got it! And all of that happens on Dec 21st the day you leave for break. So, what a great way to end the year before Christmas break than with a spread the likes of Buddy the Elf has NEVER seen!
Person 2: Does second place get anything?
Person 1: Yuppers! The homeroom that gets second place will get a regular donut party….. so just donuts…. Which is still pretty cool. And those donuts will also be there on Dec 21st before you leave for break.
Person 2: Does third place get anything?
Person1: The rumor is there homeroom gets high fives from Mr. Marzock on Dec 21st
Person 2: That prize sounds better than the rest.
Person 1: So don’t be a cotton headed ninny muggings and help out some local Ephrata families this holiday season.
Person 2: Every little bit counts.
Person 1: That is pretty sweet
Person 2: Sweeter than a candy cane.
Person 1: So talk to your homeroom teacher to see how you can spread Christmas cheer for all the world to hear, this holiday season!

China has urged the US and Canada to "clarify" the arrest of Meng Wanzhou, Huawei's chief financial officer. The daughter of the founder of the Chinese telecoms giant was arrested in Vancouver on 1 December and could face extradition to the US. Details of the arrest have not been released but the US has been investigating Huawei over possible violation of sanctions against Iran. China demanded her release, saying her detention was possibly a rights abuse.
In other news,
A big search and rescue operation is continuing in Japan for five missing US Marines after two aircraft with seven crew collided and crashed into the sea. Two Marines were rescued. One is in "fair condition," while the other is being transported to a local hospital for evaluation, Marines officials say. The planes involved are a KC-130 and an F/A-18 based at Iwakuni near Hiroshima. US media say they crashed during a mid-air refueling exercise. The Marine Corps has not officially confirmed this, describing the incident as a "mishap".
On this day in 1865, the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, officially ending the institution of slavery, was ratified. “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.” With these words, the single greatest change wrought by the Civil War was officially noted in the Constitution.
