Stories have been based off of Greek Mythology for many years. The Fiction novel “Life of Pi” by Yann Martel is one of those stories that has Greek mythology aspects to it. Greek Mythology is a body of Myths told by the ancient Greeks. A famous epic poem called “The Odyssey” tells the stories of the hero Odysseus on his way home from war. This can be compared to Life Of Pi because Pi is stranded at sea and needs to find land. The gods play a role in Greek mythology and in Life Of Pi.
The book life of Pi is about a boy whose family is selling there zoo and are moving to Canada. On the way to Canada there boat sinks killing everybody but Pi and the animals. Pi is on board with many different animals including a Bengal tiger. Pi must keep himself alive from the harsh conditions of the ocean and the tiger. Pi will have to keep himself busy and make sure that he has enough to survive. Pi is in the middle of the ocean and has no idea how to get anywhere and if he will survive. Throughout the book Pi will try and build a bond with the Bengal tiger even if it means risking his life.
The life of Pi and the Odyssey can be compared even though they sound like they are completely different books. It the book Life Of Pi the main character Pi is stranded in the middle of the ocean. This can also be seen in the Odyssey because Odysseus is on his long journey and he spends a lot of it on a boat in the middle of the ocean. Neither person really knows where they are and want to make it back to land but don’t know how to get there. Pi wants to make it to Canada and Odysseus wants to make it home to Ithaca. More comparisons that can be seen are the characters relationship with the gods. Throughout the story Pi is praying to the gods to help him on his journey. In the odyssey Odysseus is always asking for help from the gods. It both stories the gods come through and help each character. In both stories neither main character have the greatest crews. Odysseus's crew are not smart and they make many mistakes which cost them time and some of them their lives. Pi’s crew is animals and the most dangerous animal is the Bengal Tiger. It may seem that these two books have no relationship to each other but they do and are more alike than people think.
