On Monday, November 19th, a representative from AFS and the Speedwell Foundation will be in school periods 5,6 and 7 to meet with students interested in study abroad. AFS supports students who want to spend a year abroad—either during high school or post high school as a GAP year. There are scholarships available. This is an amazing opportunity to spend time in the country of your choosing. These are not just travel abroad experiences to Germany or Spain, but there are many choices of countries to choose from. There will also be an Ephrata student there, Destiny Ovensen-Stauffer, to share her experience in Germany last year. If you are interested and would like to sign up, please see a language teacher in the building before Friday to get your name on the list.. Language teacher rooms are all located between rooms 128 and 138 on the first floor.

A 12-day-old boy has died after he was snatched from his mother and bitten by a monkey in northern India. The infant's mother was breastfeeding him at their home in the city of Agra when the animal entered the house and grabbed him, the family said. The monkey dropped the badly bitten child on a neighbor's roof after locals gave chase to the animal. The baby died of his injuries in hospital. Locals say monkey attacks in the area are growing more frequent. The baby's uncle, Dhirendra Kumar, told the BBC that the family was heartbroken.
Astronomers have discovered a planet around one of the closest stars to our Sun. Nearby planets like this are likely to be prime targets in the search for signatures of life, using the next generation of telescopes. The planet's mass is thought to be more than three times bigger than our own, placing it in a category of world known as "super-Earths". It orbits Barnard's star, which sits "just" six light-years away. The star is an extremely faint "red dwarf" that's about 3% as bright as the Sun.

Each year, 6.5 million pets find themselves abandoned at U.S. Animal Shelters. Of those 6.5 million, a staggering 1.5 million are euthanized after staying in a shelter for only a month in a half. There will be a Humane League Donation Request from November 13th- November 20th in the cafeteria during lunch. At that time, feel free to donate money, toys, or dry pet food. Your donation will help alleviate the stress of acquiring daily necessities that these animals depend on. After dealing with a heartbreaking past, shelter animals are often left traumatized. With new toys and fresh food, it gives these broken souls another chanced to enjoy life again. We can help end their suffering. Save a life and Donate Today!
