Fall Sport Standouts

The girls’ golf team ended their season on Oct. 8 at state. Senior, Aspen Luebbe, and Junior, Ashley Warner, both qualified for the state.  Luebbe placed 4th at the state tournament shooting an 81. Aspen Luebbe set four big school records this season. She broke the home course 18-hole record with a 75 and tied the away 18-hole course record with a 72. She also tied the 9-hole away record with a 35 and got on the record board for having one of the top five season averages ranking third on the list with a 78.3 average.

The boys’ tennis team went to state on Oct. 10. Adam Kamrath had the only win at the state meet as he defeated Omaha Northwest in the first round. Number one singles player, Adam Kamrath, also won the Columbus Invite, and the team placed third. The team placed third at the GNAC Tournament. Five of the Six players earned a medal. Columbus’s top finish Kamrath who placed second. Connor Wiehn & Cole Wilcox placed fourth at #1 doubles. Dawson Dreifurst & Colin Flyr placed fourth at #2 doubles. Great season guys!

The volleyball team had a great season. They had many season wins as well as winning the conference tournament. They beat Gering, Scottsbluff, and Hastings at conference. Subdistricts were held Tuesday Oct. 30 at Columbus High School. The Discoverers beat both Schuyler and Blair at subdistricts. At the District Final in Omaha on Saturday Nov. 3, they fell to Skutt Catholic 3-0, making them District Runner-Ups. Congrats on a great season volleyball girls!

The football team finished their season strong. The Discoverers defeated North Platte and Fremont claiming the F and C cup from Fremont. They also won their final home game against Omaha Northwest.

Softball districts were held at Millard South. The Discoverers lost against Bellevue West in the first round and then defeated Lincoln High in round 2. They fell again to Bellevue West in the final game of the season.

The girls’ cross country squad ended their season at Districts in Beatrice. The boys qualified for State by getting 3rd at Districts. Douglas Davidchik, Joseph McFarland, and Lucas Miller all placed in the top 15 at Districts.

The Discoverer Marching Band placed 4th at the Sounds of Excellence competition in Elkhorn and placed 2nd at the Yankton, SD competition with the percussion group winning the Outstanding Percussion Award. They finished their marching season by receiving a one in ranking on Oct. 20 at the state competition in Kearney.

I am on the Diamond Dance team. I also participate in CHS 101, NHS, Student Council, Revolution, and C-club. This is my second year in newspaper. I like warm weather and traveling. My Starbucks order is a grande caramel frappuccino. I love cats and am excited for a great senior year. Go Discoverers!
