Rachel's Challenge started after Rachel Scott's death on April 20th, 1999, in the Columbine High School shooting. Her parents wanted other students to know that you need to walk in another's shoes to understand them, and "treating others the way you want to be treated," is something everyone should aspire to. The challenge is a way to bring students together and start conversations.
Here at Northern High School, our guidance counselors have welcomed Rachel's challenge back this year as a way to help students understand one another. It gave them a chance to communicate openly with no worry about being judged. Here's a video of a recent activity.
