On Saturday, Oct. 20 the Discoverer marching band competed at the Nebraska State Bandmasters’ Association in Kearney. This was the fourth and final marching band competition for the 2018 season.
The band arrived in Kearney at 3 p.m. to support the Lakeview marching band.
At 6 p.m. the band got into uniform and headed to their designated warm-up location where they got a lovely pep talk from Mr. Peabody. Some members may or may not have shed a few tears. Then the band was on deck at 7:45 p.m. and performed at 8 p.m.. They marched onto the field with confidence, well prepared for their final run through of Land of the Free.
The spectators and judges alike were blown away with the boldness of the beautifully patriotic movements.
The awards for class A were held at 9:30 p.m.. Every second after their performance was agonizing for the band. This award would tell how well their efforts paid off. Getting a Superior this year would be the difference between a four-year streak and a five-year streak. A lot was riding on this year since none of the band members knew what it was like to get anything less than a superior.
In the end, Columbus High got a Division I: Superior. Every single band member was ecstatic. This competition was by far the most emotional in various ways. This competition was the last one the seniors would ever march at. The Class A State Marching Band Competition marks the end of their season.
Well done to all band members this season! Thank you for always supporting our teams and events!
