Chinese President Xi Jinping has officially opened the world's longest sea crossing bridge, nine years after construction first began. Including its access roads, the bridge spans 34 miles and connects Hong Kong to Macau and the mainland Chinese city of Zhuhai. The bridge has cost about $20 billion and saw several delays. Construction has been dogged by safety issues - at least 18 workers have died on the project, officials say. Mr Xi attended the opening ceremony of the bridge, which took place in Zhuhai, along with the leaders of Hong Kong and Macau. The bridge will open to regular traffic on Wednesday.

The Museum of the Bible, in Washington DC, sent five of its 16 fragments for analysis in Germany. But results showed "characteristics inconsistent with ancient origin", the museum said. Costing $500 million, the museum was opened by Evangelical Christian and billionaire Steve Green in 2017. The Dead Sea Scrolls are a set of ancient manuscripts of the Hebrew Bible.
