Do you have a desire to make everyone feel like someone? Circle of Friends is the club for you!
Circle of Friends is a peer mentoring group created to promote more awareness about what autism is and how it affects people. Circle of Friends tries to reach target students who have autism or are otherwise on the spectrum. The mentors are taught what autism is through working with target students. The mentors also learn about other special needs and how to include someone on the spectrum. Circle of Friends tries to make everyone feel included and have a sense of belonging.
Circle of Friends goes on outings into the community. This helps the target students gain social skills as well as the opportunity to go do fun things with different people. The group likes to go bowling, work the concession stand, participate in Trunk or Treat, go out to dinner, and more.
On a personal note, being in Circle of Friends has made me want to pursue a career in special education. Being in Circle of Friends creates relationships with students you may not have associated yourself with originally. Come join us!
