CALLING ALL 10th GRADE LEADERS! We will be selecting an EHS Sophomore to attend this year's HOBY Leadership Conference. The conference will be held at Shippensburg University from May 16th - May 19th, 2019. This is an AMAZING opportunity to develop leadership skills and grow to be able to positively impact our world. In order to be considered as the selected nominee, please submit a 1-page essay to the Counseling Office by 10/25/18 on the following topic:
What does it take to be a good leader?
In what ways would you consider yourself a good leader? In what ways do you still have room to grow?

This announcement is for all freshmen: Individual Freshmen Transition meetings with your counselor begin on Thursday, October 18th. Meetings are 10 minutes each and will focus on; a discussion about 1st semester classes, a reflection on your transition to EHS, as well as a conversation about possible future career directions. Please go the counseling website to sign up for a time slot for your meeting. You can also get there by using the link for the signup page found on your Schoology newsfeed as well. Be sure to select a date and time that works best for your schedule – if you have a study hall, that would be the ideal period for this meeting.
Now is the perfect time to open your laptop and sign up for a time slot for your meeting – don’t delay!

Hundreds of protesters against President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh have been arrested in Washington, DC. Comedian Amy Schumer and model Emily Ratajkowski were among 302 people held for demonstrating against the nominee. Republicans earlier declared an FBI report had exonerated him of sexual assault allegations. But Democrats said the five-day inquiry was "incomplete" because it was limited by the White House. The Senate will hold a procedural vote on the nominee today.
In other news,
Elon Musk has mocked a financial regulator just days after reaching an agreement with it over fraud charges. The Tesla boss tweeted the "Short-seller Enrichment Commission", as he dubbed the Securities and Exchange Commission, was doing "incredible work". Last weekend Musk agreed to step down as Tesla chairman and pay a 20 million dollar fine over tweets that he had funding to take Tesla private. The deal followed the SEC's decision to sue him for alleged securities fraud. The SEC declined to comment on Mr Musk's latest tweet.
1989 : The Dalai Lama, exiled spiritual and political leader of Tibet, won the Nobel Peace Prize for shunning violence and seeking liberation from China for his Himalayan nation through peaceful means.
2011: Steve Jobs, died after battling pancreatic cancer for several years. The 56-year-old former CEO of Apple had resigned prior to his death leading to speculation that his health had made a turn for the worse.

In sports results, volleyball lost a close match 3-2 vs Lampeter Strasburg, girls soccer won 2-0 vs E town, boys soccer beat E town 2-1, and field hockey lost 3-1 at Garden Spot.

Homecoming tickets will now be sold for $9 during lunches through October 11th! Tickets can also be purchased at the door for $12. You must have a form of I.D. when purchasing tickets. If you are inviting a non-Ephrata student, a form of I.D. belonging to the invited student must be with you when purchasing their ticket. There are also forms that must be filled out, which can be found on the school website and in the main office. The student invited must either be a current high school student or a recent Ephrata grad.

Ephrata’s Quiz Bowl has had several very successful seasons in a row, finishing high in the league standings and making the playoffs of WGAL TV’s BrainBusters the past 2 seasons. If you would like to be part of this exciting team, practice starts TODAY from 3:10 to 3:50 in room 211. We have only 2 practices before our first match, so all players interested in playing must make every effort to attend this first practice.
