Joseph and his brothers are taking the stage for the 2018 Columbus High musical. Auditions for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat were held on Aug. 29. With about 50 students auditioning, the turnout was, “really good this year” stated Mrs. Parker, the main director of the production.
As a director, Mrs. Parker takes care of the choreography and sets up all of the costumes. She also needs to make sure that each cast member is on top of learning what they are supposed to do and learning their songs and lines. However, this year’s production does not require any line-learning. That is because this musical is entirely sung-through so the actors only need to memorize songs, not dialogue.
Many different factors influenced the directors’ decision to put on this unique musical.
“We wanted to do a show that kind of showcased the talent that we have,” says Mrs. Parker. Each year the directors try to find a piece that will fit the kids as well as be popular enough to have people come to see it. This year, Joseph and his coat fit the bill.
With a new year comes a new generation of actors and actresses that become a part of the theatrical community. Even though last year’s seniors left some big shoes to fill, the newbies of high school showbiz convey a considerable amount of promise.
“I’ve been really impressed with the talent that we saw… [from] the people that auditioned that were new,” says Mrs. Parker.
The road to success will be a bumpy one, but with teamwork and determination, this year’s cast and crew are sure to come out on top. Put Nov. 9 and 10 in your calendars for the show.
