Joseph Cast Prepares For Fall Musical
by Lexi Paczosa-Hall
This year, CHS will perform “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” as their fall musical. Auditions took place on Aug. 29. With rehearsals just starting, the large cast is beginning to prepare for the November show.
The musical is based on the Bible’s book of Genesis starring Joseph. In this account, all of Joseph’s brothers go against him in order to kill him out of jealousy since he is treated better by their father. The musical is told in song along with three narrators.
Starring as Joseph is junior Ryan Sims.
“There was a lot of great male competition so I was very nervous during the audition,” said Sims.
Sims tried out for the musical after years of participating in theater.
“It’s something I’ve done since sixth grade and I kinda kept doing it,” Sims says.
Junior Dawson Wurdeman plays Asher, one of the many brothers required in the cast. He says he can relate to this character because “certain people get certain things in life and it doesn’t seem very fair and it sucks sometimes, but it still happens.”
The musical will be narrated by seniors Lydia Johnson and Reagan Gausman, and junior Karissa Gleeson.
“I need to put myself in the shoes of someone telling the story and kinda take it back to biblical times,” said Gleeson.
The fact that there are no speaking parts does not bother senior Coden Prokopec, who plays Judah.
“The music is the best part, it’s all catchy,” said Prokopec.
On a similar note, junior Jayven Krepel plays Levi and says his favorite musical number of the show is “One More Angel in Heaven” because of “the western flair” and fun impression.
