Here are a few tips to help those entering high school. Good luck and take it easy!
- Do not buy anything from older students. (hall passes, elevator passes, bathroom passes etc.) This is a scam. Upperclassmen have done this in the past as a way of earning easy money from unsuspecting freshman.
- If you are lost, ask a teacher to help you find your class. Some upperclassmen think it's funny to send freshman in the opposite direction.
- Don’t forget your gym bag on gym day. It’s rough being the only one in jeans, and you won’t earn participation points for that day.
- Don’t stand in the middle of the hallway. Upperclassmen find this very annoying and will push you out of the way.
- Don’t walk on the wrong side of the hallway. Yes, there is a right and wrong side!
- Study and do your homework. (Your GPA actually matters.)
- Don’t stress out over small stuff and stay away from those who make a big deal out of everything,
- Work in study halls. You’re more likely to get your work done, and that’s what they are meant for. Time management will help you maintain free time outside of school.
- Learn how to prioritize and organize. It's hard to keep up with classes if you don’t. (Use your agenda book, write a to do list, and keep papers in folders and notebooks.)
- Get involved. Go to the athletic events, join clubs, go to the school plays, concerts and other various events.
- Most importantly, have fun.
