In late September, Stroudsburg High School had participated in the international G.A.P.P. program. G.A.P.P. stands for the German American Partnership Program where 13 students from Germany came here to Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania for 3 weeks to experience life here in America. The German students would be set up with a partner during their stay. Within this time, the students would be given the opportunity to learn school life here in America, and how different our culture is here from theirs. They would also visit historical places within Stroudsburg, as well as visit Gettysburg, New York and many more places during their stay. School’s here in America were much divergent in comparison to German schools. For starters, the Germans say our technology here is far more advance. In the classrooms teachers here have their own smart-boards and computers to teach class. Though in Germany, teacher’s classrooms contain chalkboards to teach. Our school provides a bigger variety of extracurricular activities as well connecting student life with the school after school. Classes would also be different, in Germany they would have 10 classes, 3 classes which would take five times a week and the other 7 classes would be taken two or three times a week. In Germany one begins to learn a secondary language at a very young age around 8-10. Here in America one begins to learn a new language in 8th-9th grade. German culture is very different from ours and both can learn from one another.
