South Salem seniors Chloe Bryant, Collin Bell and Isaac Sheets as they have earned first place in Oregon for the 2018 Ninth Circuit Civics Contest “What does equal protection mean to students?”
 
They are also a finalist for the Ninth Circuit Contest.  As the winner, they will be receiving prize money and are invited to attend the Oregon Federal Bar Association Annual Dinner on May 24, where they will show their video to the approximately 300 lawyers and judges who will be in attendance. 
 
The competition is based on the 14th Amendment to the Constitution which provides, in part, that no state can “deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.” Over the past 150 years, Congress and the courts have applied this “Equal Protection Clause” to our right to equal educational opportunities.
