A fire in a mall killed 64 people in Russian Siberia yesterday, 41 of them being children. Although the cause of the fire is unknown, President Putin has claimed the source of the fire to be “criminal negligence.” 300 people gathered outside the local government headquarters to demand the “dismissal of authorities,” and for someone to be held accountable for the oversight in safety measures and regulations.
On this day in 1905, newly developed fingerprint technology is used to solve a murder case in England for the first time. Two victims, Thomas and Ann Farrow who kept a shop in South London were found beaten, killed, and robbed. Investigators found a fingerprint on their safe that didn’t match either of the victim’s, or the small collection of fingerprints that Scotland Yard had in their files. Investigators were eventually led to two brothers, Alfred and Albert Scratton, and, sure enough, the fingerprint on the cash box matched Alfred’s.

This announcement is for any students who would like to learn more about the United States Naval Academy as a post-secondary college option. There will be a bus trip to visit the Academy, which is located in Annapolis Maryland on Saturday March 31st. The purpose of this trip is to give interested students and their parents an opportunity to see the Academy first hand, learn about the application/appointment process, and meet with local area high school graduates who are presently midshipmen at the Academy. If you have an interest in serving your country as an officer, this is a great way to attend college for free, as a degree from the Academy is estimated to be worth approximately $400,000 for the four year program.
Check out the information sheet on Schoology if you would like to learn more!
