This past Valentine’s day, a terrifying school shooting occurred at Stoneman Douglas high school in Parkland, Florida. Nicolas Cruz, the convicted shooter, killed 17 students and injured 16 more, and was charged with 34 counts of premeditated murder.
Quickly after, surviving students took to Twitter to announce their rage and the need for change, and were angery with President Trumps tweets and his ‘thoughts and prayers’. The tragic event has led to the plan for a silent walk out in protest of the school shootings that the government has done close to nothing to prevent. The walk out is set to occur on the 24th of March at 10am . Students and staff are meant to walk out of the school and advocate for gun control and prevention of school shootings.
This protest is completely optional but has received a lot of support from students and staff and from the looks of it looks as though it will be a success.
