High School Heads to Anastasia

The Freshman and Sophomore honors history students of Middletown High School North took a trip to New York City to see the Broadway musical, Anastasia.  The musical is about a young woman who thinks she might be the long lost daughter of Tsar Nicholas, the last Tsar of Russia, who was executed during the Russian Revolution.  This play ties into their history classes well, as 9th graders are currently learning about the early years of the Imperial Russian Empire.  Students were also exposed to the many diverse cultures of New York when they visited Bryant Park, an open air market filled with vendors selling everything from homemade candles, to authentic African pottery.  They even got to sample street foods like churros, falafels, and Belgian waffles.  The trip provided excellent exposure to different cultures and customs, and gave students a peek into what life is like for people all around the world, even if they only had to travel 45 minutes to see it.
