Students from around the school fought hard to secure their roles in this year’s spring production of, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.” While there are parts for everyone, a few select roles stand out from the rest, and the process was a long one.
Auditions!
Tuesday, November 14th, and Wednesday, November 15th may have seemed like ordinary days to others, but these were the first chances for Northern’s ambitious musical students to get one of the few leading or featured roles in the musical. On Tuesday, students could audition for the lead roles of Joseph, The Narrator, or one of Joseph’s eleven brothers. Wednesday was the auditions for feature characters: Jacob, Pharaoh, Potiphar, Mrs. Potiphar, Butler & Baker, and the ensemble. Though it may seem like a silly thing to get worked up about, to musical kids it can be one of the scariest things. Singing a song (two for some roles), reading a monologue, and dancing a short dance is what comprised the audition process. And after weeks of practicing, the two audition days have come and gone.
Callbacks!
Callbacks are when the directors would like you to audition again for the same, and or other, roles. Getting a callback does not mean that you've gotten a role, it just simply means they want to see you again for a closer examination. Callbacks were posted on Thursday November, 16th on Mrs. Bissell’s website, with further auditions being held the following Monday. The list read as follows:
