No School November

Salem’s kickstarting the holidays!

 

Right in the midst of the holiday season, Salem will be hosting their 36th annual tree lighting ceremony on Tues. Nov. 28 from 5-6:30 p.m. Oregonians will be heading to the Oregon State Capitol Rotunda to take part in the celebration.

 

“West Salem High [school] will have a choir performance at 5p.m.” says Stacy Nalley, Salem’s public outreach coordinator. “During the tree lighting and choir performances there will be free refreshments and pictures with Santa in the galleria area.” Every half an hour to an hour, a different choir from one of Salem’s schools will be performing.There will be mingling, christmas lights and music at the event, which is expected to end around 7p.m. “See the annual favorite – the model railroad” (Nalley, ‘17) at the ceremony.

 

Beginning the next day, Nov. 29, at 10a.m., daily choir performances will be held at the Rotunda, Mon.-Sat. Until Dec. 22. The event will be updated on social media and at Oregon Capital’s website. In case of unexpected cancellations or postponements, check the Salem Capitol Facebook page, as they make an effort to update it daily.
